ADULT CHOIR
One of the most congenial groups in the church family is the choir. We are open to High School ages and up and require no auditions to join. We do require a time commitment and a love of singing.
We try to span the style gamut from very traditional music to the more modern, up-beat styles. We also touch on the music of other cultures.
The choir sings weekly from Labor Day in September through Father's Day in June. The summer music consists of soloists, small groups, and instrumentalists, often provided by people from our own church or choir.
The choir rehearsal schedule is every Thursday evening from 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. We rehearse again on Sunday mornings from 9:15 - 10:00 a.m. and we sing during the Christmas Eve and Maundy Thursday services.
If this sounds like "your kind of group", we would be thrilled to welcome you. If you have any further questions, please contact the choir director.

JUBELLAIRE RINGERS
Handbell ringing began in our church in December 1979 with the arrival of our initial two octave set of Malmark bells. Since then memorials and gifts have resulted in five octaves of bells, four octaves of hand chimes and a closet full of various rhythm instruments.
For years, Wednesday evenings have been used for weekly rehearsals. Each group of ringers alternate playing during the worship service and sometimes at various special events and occasions.
No previous musical experience or training is required. Often several members of a family will ring together. Sometimes ringers are as young as 6 or 7 and as old as ..... The requirements for our intergenerational ringers are:
- being tall enough to see over the tables to watch the director.
- a willingness to regularly attend weekly rehearsals.
New members are welcome at anytime, although September and January are best, because we start new music at those times.

BOARD of TRUSTEES
Twelve church members constitute the Board of Trustees of the Second Congregational Church. The Board is charged with the responsibility of managing the business affairs of the church. Guided by God's call to faithful and prudent stewardship, the Board of Trustees addresses all issues relating to the church building and grounds and church finances.
The Board of Trustees meet monthly to discuss and act on various church operational issues, ranging from maintaining the boiler to raising funds, repairing stain glass to developing an annual budget, evaluating workers compensation coverage to reviewing the endowment fund. In addition, the Board of Trustees responds to special projects that arise from time to time.
It is easy for the Board of Trustees to get totally immersed in the details: nuts and bolts, cracked sidewalks, leaky faucets and leaky roofs. It must however maintain its focus on the fact that it is doing its best to keep God's house in order, staffed, clean, safe, warm, welcoming and sharing its resources in mission.

BOARD of MISSIONS
The purpose of the Board of Missions is to reach out into our congregation, community, nation and the world, helping others. This is a very large task in itself, but we also accept the responsibility of educating our congregation about the needs of others. The task may be as simple as listening to someone else's needs or as complex as helping in the creation of an area homeless shelter.
The Board's Mission Possible program sponsors work trips. These offer chances for people to go out into our world, to work as a church group, and return with new visions of our mission. We are also concerned about housing needs in our local community and are actively involved in Habitat for Humanity.
The Board of Missions conducts the campaign to encourage contributions to One Great Hour of Sharing and the Neighbors in Need offerings and provides financial assistance to local service agencies.

BOARD of CHRISTIAN EDUCATION
With guidance from the pastor, the Board of Christian Education acts to provide a variety of opportunities for all kinds of learning, for all members of the church family. The Board is currently redifining the position of Church School Superintendent and creating a vision of where they want Christian Education to be in 5 years.
Children are an exciting part of the church today, and vital to its future. The Board works with the Church Staff to set policies, select materials, recruit and train teachers, and provide children with a program that is both rich with learning and fun.
Youth of the church and of the community have great talents and great needs. The Board works with the Youth Coordinator to provide exciting programs and to reach out in a loving and accepting way to other youth in the community.
If we want children and youth to be excited about Christian learning, adults must be excited participants who set the example. The Board encourages all to participate in learning activities provided by other Boards and organizations. In addition, it sponsors a variety of learning activities throughout the year. These range from a basic introduction to the Bible, to book discussions and workshops, to a retreat. Board members lead some of these, participate in many, and support all.
While most activities focus on learning, there are a few which are done primarily for fun. The Board provides the annual "Jesus' Birthday Party" at Christmas time, holds a picnic in the spring and plans an occasional pot-luck sing-along.

BOARD of DEACONS
The Board of Deacons' special responsibility is to the spiritual life of the church.
The Deacons, in conjunction with the pastor, prepare the Sanctuary for worship, usher, serve communion, and assist with baptism, reception of new members, and confirmation. Deacons may also participate in the morning worship by preaching, reading scriptures, or offering prayer. They are responsible for the Deacons' and the Memorial Fund as well as the Music Committee. Deacons also provide private ministry within the church family by visitations to nursing homes, shut-ins, and inmates. They often serve as greeters at church functions and fellowship hours.
