Children and Youth
Second Congregational Church is a Kid Friendly Place

Our goal is to introduce children to the love of God which we know in Jesus Christ in a safe and welcoming environment.

Nursery

Birth to age 5: Nursery care provided in a loving and consistent environment. Sue McIntosh is our nursery supervisor and she always has a young helper. Once a month another responsible adult member of our congregation fills in for Sue. The nursery, located in the first room on the right in the Education Wing (immediately past the bathrooms). Parents may bring children up to 15 minutes before worship begins or anytime during the service.

Church School

Kindergarten to 5th Grade: Every Sunday, children of these ages begin worship with the rest of the church family. About 20 minutes into the service, children are invited to come forward for a time not only for them but for "the children in all of us." Then they go together to spend the rest of the time with peers to begin their “Good News Hour,” an adventure in living in community, more than being in “school,” even “church school.” Opportunities for learning and deepening, for fellowship and service will unfold over these next days and weeks, all meant to help us grow in our relationship with God and each other.

All children return to services on Communion Sunday to share this experience with their families.

Bibles are presented to third graders in June.

All children are welcome to stay with family during worship. Coloring books and reading materials are provided. Following Sunday services the kids have their own space to visit and eat snacks at their own pint sized tables and chairs.

Children’s service takes place one Saturday evening a month. This service is totally focused on our youngest members and lasts no more than 20 minutes. A potluck dessert social tops off this special night.

For middle and high school youth...Sunday morning exploration will be "Discovering the Bible Again" in the Clayton Room from 10 to 11:15 am each Sunday, except Communion Sunday.

Youth Fellowship meets every other Sunday evening for fun, fellowship, and service at 6pm under the leadership of David and Lori Nicol.

Occasional special events are designed with kids in mind. Recent events include; Winter Carnival, Spread the Love a Valentine’s Day Event, Halloween Haunted House, Jesus’ Birthday Party and Picnic Sunday with a water slide and games.
