have been members of Second Congregational Church for approximately five years. How did a Southern Belle from Mississippi meet up with a Canuck from Nova Scotia? Colin was traveling on assignment as an Occupational Therapist and ended up in Hattiesburg, MS. (the town where Lisa went to college). It was here where the couple met. Lisa grew up near the Gulf Coast of Mexico in Long Beach, MS and was raised in the First Christian Church. Colin grew up in Nova Scotia and was raised in the Catholic Church. After the couple met, they had a journey of faith that led them abroad with Rahob Rinpoche in Tibet, and Nepal. The couple stayed in a monastery in Nepal and studied Tibetan Buddhism. Lisa and Colin enjoy traveling and have traveled throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe.
Lisa completed both her bachelor’s and master’s degree in speech pathology at the University of Southern Mississippi. Lisa has been a practicing speech language pathologist for the past 16 years and has worked with all ages ranging from birth (in the neonatal intensive care unit) to 105 (in the nursing home). She is also a DelGiacco Neuro-Arts Therapist. Presently she works at SVMC, the Bennington School, and Cresent Manner. Lisa has published many articles on her research interest, “Empathy.” She is excited to have a manuscript published this January in the Journal of Tropics and Stroke Rehabilitation on Empathy and its relationship to outcomes in therapy. Lisa recently became the first and only Board Certified Swallowing Specialist in Vermont. She is finishing her position with the Vermont Speech and Hearing Association this year as public relations chair, but will continue her national position of Advisory Council representative for the American Speech Language Hearing Association to lobby the issues related to speech and hearing. She is finishing up a 2 year art school in December and enjoys poetry, painting, and drawing, and creating of any kind. Her hobbies include yoga, biking, running, swimming, hiking, gardening, reading, and music. Lisa has walked many a Crop Walk, has taught Good News Hour and you may have seen her greeting folks as they come into church.
Colin is an occupational therapist who has been practicing for 14 years. He has worked with mostly adults and geriatric patients in a variety of settings. His specialty is hand therapy and ergonomics. He is also a gifted photographer having grown up with a camera in his hands. Colin has won several photography awards and has a successful, growing, photography business. His ability to interact and quickly build relationships with people is a definite asset for this. Colin’s love of nature leads him to do most of his photography “on the move”. His favorite statement when shooting subjects in a naturalistic setting, “Life doesn’t happen in a studio!” Colin grew up in New Brunswick and his French immersion in middle school led to his bilingualism, but he is modest about using his French! He loves to fly, and at one point was pursuing his private pilot license, but family demands have put that on hold. While watching the helicopters come and go at the hospital he always says that he’ll do that when he grows up! Colin loves being outside, biking, hiking and skiing. He was on the board of trustees for approximately 2 years. The couple has two children, Liam is 6 and Skye is 8 months. Lisa’s mother, Trevella, and Great Aunt Ida both live in Bennington now. The entire family loves nature, are, music, and traveling! They are a family of avid learners and explorers!
