Profile – Vic Callirgos
Posted: October 1st, 2009 @ 10:52am

Vic Callirgos, born in Manhattan, NYC has been a member of Second Congregational Church since 1993. He has served on the Board of Missions where he did an outstanding job with the Loan Fund for 8 years. Also he sings in the choir and was guest speaker when Pastor Mary was on vacation.
Vic has worked in Iron Shops since and before graduation from high school in Long Island. This vocation has given him many interesting and high profile assignments which included a Yankee Stadium renovation in 1975; work on renovations to the Plaza Hotel in New York City, and reparations at the Statue of Liberty.
Vic runs a small business in Bennington making fabrications and drawings for iron shops, mostly of steel rails, stairs, etc. Evidence of his work at our church is the iron railing leading into the church from the side parking lot.
Another accomplishment in Vic’s life has been his part time acting career for 20 years in regional theatres in New York, Connecticut and Vermont. His high point was doing “Love Letters” with his wife Daryl at our church. This production provided funds for Bennington Food and Fuel Fund, and was produced on Valentine’s Day in 2009.
In the interim Vic has been commuting to State College in North Adams, MA. to complete a degree, forging ahead after his high school education in a Long Island high school.
Vic states that life changing trips to Honduras and Bosnia with Church World Service groups has had an impact on his life. His travels have also taken him to Ireland, Scotland, Germany, Italy, England, Mexico and Peru, the latter being the birthplace of his father’s family.
Another phase of his life has been shared with his wife, Daryl Kenny. They have hosted exchange students from India, Germany, Italy, England, Mexico and Peru. He still keeps in touch with these students.
Vic is married to Daryl Kenny. Children of a former marriage are son Victor who is a restaurant manager in Buffalo, N.Y.; Kevin, a draftsman who works with him in Bennington, and son Ken who is a nuclear physicist studying at SUNY in Stony Brook, NY. Daryl’s son Kevin and his wife Sarah who is an event coordinator; a granddaughter, Violet, who is their first grandchild.
Vic’s wife, Daryl is now with Southern Vermont College as director of Alumni Relations and annual giving.
Vic keeps busy but takes time out for golf during the season; he will no doubt be back in his place in the choir, and help in projects whenever he is asked. We’re sure he will not sit idly by if there is some project that requires his skill and interest.
We salute you, Vic
